Engine 9 at California State Railroad Museum
The restored Engine 9 now on invited display at California State Railroad Museum (CSRM) in Sacramento
Thanks for your interest in Engine 9, the last piece of a great story.
That story began in 1920 when the Mt. Tamalpais and Muir Woods Railway ordered a new all-wheel drive steam locomotive from Heisler Corporation in Pennsylvania. Beginning with a dream of relocating Engine 9 in 2018 from an outside display in Scotia, CA, and bringing it home to Marin County involved a group of volunteers and craftspeople led by the Friends of No, 9. They successfully acquired it, restored it in Sonoma, CA, and Sebastapol, CA then displayed it in the Mill Valley Memorial Day Parade in 2025 then delivered it to CSRM as a featured exhibit in their world-class railroad museum.
